Dips

Dips are the first exercise you need to execute to fully build chest muscles.  To accomplish this, you must have two items that are approximately the same height, such as a bench or two chairs.  The objects used must have enough support to hold you as you lift yourself and lower yourself in between the two objects used.  You should raise yourself by extending your arms, and then let yourself down slowly until your upper arms are level with the ground.  Don’t allow yourself to touch the ground as you lower your body.  Go as many times as you can without stopping to complete one set, and strive for at least three to five sets.  This is one of the best exercises to build chest muscles, and will also build the tricep muscle on the back of the arms.

The pushup is another great exercise to build chest muscles.  There are so many different pushup variations that can help to vary your exercise routine.  The standard pushup is used with your hands placed at shoulder width.  You can raise your feet onto a chair or sofa to make the pushup harder.  You can elevate your upper body to lower the resistance of the pushup.  Different hand positions will also change the focal point of muscles being utilized.  Close grip pushups put your hands together on the ground while wide grip pushups place the hands wider than the standard pushup.  These different versions of the pushup will focus on different areas of the chest muscles.  If these pushup versions are not difficult enough, you should try for clap pushups or one-arm pushups.  Doing these types of pushups will quickly build chest muscles, since you will need an advanced level of power.
