CINCINNATI P&G buys skin products line Procter & Gamble Co. said Monday it has bought HDS Cosmetics Lab Inc. from North Castle Partners, a private equity firm based in Greenwich, Conn. The companies did not disclose details of the transaction. P&G officials said the acquisition is part of its corporate strategy of focusing on skin care as a major growth category. HDS manufactures and markets the Doctor's Dermatologic Formula skin care line, created in 1991 by New York City dermatologist Dr. Howard Sobel. It includes products for anti-aging, acne, hyper-pigmentation and sun protection. The products are sold in select spas and in specialty retail and department stores. Consumer products company Procter & Gamble Co. said Monday it bought HDS Cosmetics Lab Inc. from private equity firm North Castle Partners. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. HDS makes and markets Doctor's Dermatologic Formula skin care line with products for anti-aging, acne, hyperpigmentation and sun protection. The acquisition builds on P&G's strategy to focus on skin care as a growth category. Other brands that P&G bought and grew successfully include Pantene, Olay, Cover Girl, and Herbal Essences. P&G shares fell 37 cents to close at $65.72 on the New York Stock Exchange. .
