The congressional Democrat majority is on the right track, with their first 100-hour list of goals. It would enhance the esteem of Republican leaders and others, to get on board, instead of resisting.

A rejuvenated, new Congress could also create laws to bring more citizens into active American participation. New laws could: forbid use of voter-databases to select jurors, and there will be more registered voters; require public employees to pay into Social Security, and the system grows; re-affiliate with International Criminal Court, even if it means prohibiting the death penalty and enabling criminal prosecutions against Americans; and initiate a single-payer-plan (government agency) for all American Health Care.

Creepy mustaches

Just yesterday I approached a strange man and asked if I could pet his growing lip-love, impressed with his skill and dedication in facial hair awareness.

Living Legend: Civil rights heroine Johnnie Carr still going strong at age 96

Johnnie Carr no longer has room on her modest walls to hang the awards and honors she's been given, but the civil rights icon has never seen herself as a hero.

Others do. Carr, who turned 96 on Friday, has spent her life working for positive change in the Capital City and beyond. Active participants in the 1955 Montgomery bus boycott, Carr and her late husband, Arlam Carr Sr., filed the 1964 lawsuit that integrated the city's public schools.

She has continued to be a driving force in the city, participating in organizations such as the United Way, One Montgomery, the Friendly Supper Club and countless others. And for the past 40 years, Carr has served as president of the Montgomery Improvement Association, the group founded in 1955 to see the boycott through.

Carr downplays her accomplishments but will admit to having helped.
