Second apartment burglarized

A second home invasion, this one at the downtown apartment complex The Graduate, occurred early yesterday morning when a woman awoke to five unknown men in her apartment, State College police said.

The first incident occurred five days ago at Beaver Hill apartments across town.

At about 4 a.m. yesterday, a woman who was visiting the area was awoken in an apartment at The Graduate, 138 S. Atherton St., by five black men who had entered her apartment through the unlocked front door and were taking computers and other items, police said.

The woman yelled at the intruders, who began to flee the apartment, according to a State College police press release. As the suspects were leaving, a male student, who lives in the apartment, was returning home from work, police said.

Bangalore salad

Bangalore as an adolescent Indian city has the many aspirations that go with the age. The young IT cult, aggressive, wanna-be, are keen to succeed, build successful careers here on roots from rural backgrounds.

Old world culture, frayed curtains bearing the beauty and elegance of timelessness and wisdom on a brightly lit modern stage, waits to be needed: a time would come when money and laptops fail to fill the soul.

The markets are busy: flower and bangle sellers jostle with companionable ease beside the mobile phone and pen-drive vendors. Bangalore is a place of opportunity, immigrant zest, new beginnings with a thirst to change, and yet, time stands still in beautiful colonial bungalows that house the remnants of community and ways of life.
